I just saw Return of the King. I have few words to describe it; I can say only that I was shocked and awed. It is an amazing movie, you will, of course, already be seeing it, if you haven't already, but know that you will not be disappointed, if you have any feeling at all for good winning over evil. I will also say that I anticipate some key additions in the extended version, ones that if you have not read the book will make little difference but are in fact of a rather significant nature.

I'm home!
December 19, 2003 at 11:50:36 PM

I'm back home. It's about a nine hour drive from there to here. I suppose that means I'm done with finals, it's something that hasn't quite sunk in yet. It may not be important, though, because I'm back with my dog:

Something
December 2, 2003 at 10:39:59 PM

It is with sadness and pain in my heart that I give you this:

I walked into my roommate's room earlier tonight, and my to my chagrin, found what you see here. It is unclear to me whether he had simply not left his room for a few days, which would account for his pale tone as well as the visible air, or whether he was imbibing in products too improper to mention here, which would also account for both the pale color and the smoky air. I just thought that I should post this, so that you, the faithful few who read this, would know what kinds of living conditions I have here.

Cans, parte the second
November 25, 2003 at 12:34:35 AM

Somebody here made the mistake of opening a window near the can tower on a windy day. Needless to say that because of its great size the tower was already unstable, and combined with the deadly force of atmospheric pressure, it proved to be somewhat disastrous, as seen here. I would like to point out the odd nature of one of the columns in the right picture, which fell perfectly sideways. It has been like this for more than a week, the cans we produce now cover our counter instead of being used productively to further the tower. Its ruin lays strewn about our living area like the rubble of a relationship that no one is willing to pick up the pieces from.

Camera
November 14, 2003 at 11:34:12 AM

My brother bought a new digital camera and has offered to send his old one to me. This is good news, as I have wanted one for quite some time but have not been able to acquire one. Also, it has come to my attention that my website is "hard to read". In the interest of this I've raised the size of the text from ten point to twelve point. Although I think it now looks like one of those large-print books for blind people, it should increase readability.

Classes
November 13, 2003 at 2:52:32 PM

I got registered for all my classes. I started only a few hours after I was able to actually register and I still got screwed out of a class because it was full. Bah. So the total comes to fifteen hours, which is theoretically a respectable load.

Atonement
November 7, 2003 at 5:31:40 PM

It is only now, after re-exporting all the desktop thumbnails and previews (no, I didn't really do it before, but I did now), that I realize the heinousness of the crime I had committed. Now that I have been deprived of the (what I have come to think of as exceptional) speeds I received at home, it hits home just how slow my site is, with its behemoths of graphics lurking just behind every click. At any rate, I feel I have somewhat atoned for my sin by putting in forty-five minutes of mind-numbing work optimizing all those pictures. In many cases, file sizes were reduced by eighty percent or more. I apologize for what I have done to all of you on dialup.

Luminous Essence Too
November 7, 2003 at 4:32:50 PM

Okay, here's that new desktop I was talking about, called Luminous Essence Too. The reason for this is that it is visually somewhat similar to the first one, although in terms of methods used to create it, it is wholly different (this being a method I discovered on my own). So have fun with that. I also re-exported all the thumbnail and preview images, so those should be smaller and hopefully a little bit faster loading for you.

Tonight there is a LAN party downstairs in the cafeteria which I will be attending. I am taking my horrible IBM, wish me luck in dying a terrible death at the hands of people with hundreds of dollars worth of graphics-processing destruction in their water-cooled machines of doom. I know that I am looking forward to it.

Tower of Cans
November 4, 2003 at 7:56:11 PM

Now that we're living in the dorms, my roommates and I have been creating the requisite tower of soda cans. You can watch a video of it, you will need QuickTime 6. I also have another picture I'm working on, actually it's finished, but I just need to export it. I'll do that "soon". In the meantime, somebody notified me that I need to blog more and so I suppose I could make an effort at that. If you're bored and/or a sadist, you may like to view the archives of my posts, they date back to sometime last year, I think. Links for that are at the bottom of the page.

In other news, I'm taking the Amtrak, America's Safest Railroad, back home for Thanksgiving. This will be my first train ride ever and I suppose I'm looking forward to it. Looking forward to crashing and dying in a terrific fireball of insane death when the train hits a penny on the track and does a triple loop through the air, that is. I can't wait! I especially can't wait to see my dog.

Essays
October 15, 2003 at 10:51:43 PM

I have been working on an essay for my English midterm for the past three and a half hours. I am not good at these sorts of things, you might say I suck. It is an unfortunate fact of life, to be sure, however that does not make it any easier to bear. It is hard, embarrassing, to think that I could work so hard, put so much effort forth into a thing, and still fail so miserably at it. Perhaps you remember when you were small, young lads and ladesses, and the Big People told you that trying your best was all that mattered. That is bunk, a myth, a euphemistic approach to an inherently ugly world. Your best is not always good enough, nor is mine, and I find that increasingly often my best is not even close to okay.
